Olexandria

For the first time it was mentioned as a Cossacks settlement Ussivka. In 1784 the settlement got the status of a chief town of a district and the name of Olexandrijsk. Later the name was changed into Olexandrija.

The emblem of the Russian period

The emblem of the Russian period had been confirmed on the 7th of November 1847. In the upper part of a per fess with or and vert shield there was Khersons'ka emblem. On it a sable double-headed crowned eagle. In the right paw it had a laurel branch, in the left paw the eagle had flames. On the eagle's chest there was a azure escutcheon with an or cross with four rays in the upper part and with a small cross-bar in base. In the lower part of the emblem there were three sickles with their blades in the center and their handles in different directions. Two of them were turned to the upper corners and the third one was turned to the base of the shield.

B.Kene project

B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town - in a vert field three argent sickles with or blades turned to the center. In the canton there was an emblem of Khersons'ka province. The shield is crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements and within two or spikes entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.

The soviet emblem

It was confirmed at August, 27th, 1987 by the decision N466 of city council executive committees. The board per fess and in base per pale. In the first part paly by gules and vert is the sable rotor in a gules circle with argent sign of brown coal in it. The second gules and the third azure parts are stylized under grains of an ear. The author is Anatoliy Maksymovych Shurduk.

The emblem of 1994-2003

On the 21st of July 1994 town council session (resolution N291) confirmed a new emblem. The composition of the emblem symbolizes a spike in a full bloom. In the upper part of a per fess shield in a sable field you see a stylized picture of a rotor excavator in the middle of which there is a sable rectangle to signify brown coal. The lower part looks like a spike with the colors of a State flag of Ukraine. The author is A.M.Shudruk.

The modern emblem

It was confirmed at October, 31t, 2003 by the region council decision N326.

A shield is tierced in pall. The upper part is or with crimson paty cross. The dexter side is vert and the sinister side is crimson. In both fields are symbols of a cossack victory: the or crossed sabres twisted with or oak and laurel branches which emphasize glory and heroism in struggle for will and independence.

The gonfalon

It was confirmed at October, 31t, 2003 by the region council decision N326.

In a square panel the basis to a staff is a yellow triangle with a crimson paty cross in the center. Another part of the panel is divided into two equal horizontal parts: crimson top and green bottom.
