Kirovohrad

It is known since the first half of the XVI century as a Cossacks winter camp. It got a status of a town in the XVIII century. In 1757 a big earthen fortification was built. It was surrounded by a ravine and water. It had a form of a hexagon. Later it had been represented on an emblem.

The emblem of the Russian period

 

 

The emblem of the Russian period had been confirmed on the 6th of April, 1845. In the upper part of a per fess shield with or and gules there was a State Russian Emblem; in the lower part - earthen fortification with a monogram of empress Elizabeth. On the sides of the monogram there was a sign "1754".

B.Kene project

 

 

B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. In a gules field there was an earthen fortification with a monogram of empress Elizabeth in it. In the canton there was a picture of an emblem of Khersons'ka province. The shield is crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements and within two or spikes entwined with a ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.

The soviet emblem

 

 

It was confirmed at January, 14th, 1969. In an azure shield is an or ear with half gear on it. On the gear is the sable city name in the Ukrainian language. The chief per pale by gules and azure. In the is the argent circle with or sickle and hammer. In a vert base is or ancient gun with three shots.

The modern emblem

 

 

The modern coat of arms was approved at February, 28th, 1996. The board is divided by an inverted forked azure cross into three parts - the first and second are or, the third is dark red. On a cross there is or six-coal strengthening, on which there is a dark red monogram of the Tsarina Elizabeth. The board is framed by decorative ornament, crowned by a or town crown with three towers.

The modern emblem (large)

 

 

The board on the sides is supported by two storks. On a dark blue motto ribbon there are four ears and inscription - "With the peace and goods"

The gonfalon

 

 

In 1991 the session of the town council approved the gonfalon: a rectangular canvas with a ratio of the sides: 1:1. From a staff in a top to the bottom there are dark blue stripes, which form one at connection, which going lengthwise a length of the gonfalon on middle. A top and bottom half are yellow, triangle is red; on a triangle there is a or monogram of Elizabeth.
