Novomyrhorod

For the first time it was mentioned as Zaporozhian winter camp. Later people from different regions of Ukraine settled there. The majority of them were from Myrhorod. That fact explains the origin of the name. In 1773 it got the status of a town.

The emblem of the Russian period

 

 

The emblem of the Russian period had been confirmed on the 6th of April 1845. In the upper part of a per fess shield in an or field there was a State Russian Emblem. In the first part of the lower part there was an azure field with a monogram of empress Elizabeth on the sides of which was "1751". In the second part in a vert field a correctly dressed fighting-man.

B.Kene project

 

 

B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. In a vert field there were two

crosswise argent sabres with their or handles down and with a monogram of Elizabeth over them. In the canton there was an emblem of Khersons'ka province. The shield is crowned by an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements and within two or spikes entwined with the ribbon of the order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.

The soviet emblem

 

 

It was confirmed at June, 14th, 1988 by the decision N25 of city council sessions. In a gules field is the argent pigeon which wings are topped with a ripe or ear. In an azure base is a sable circle with argent mine and a mill. The azure fess charged by the sable city name. The top part of a shield has the form of loopholes in which is date of the city foundation - "1740". The author is V.Merezhko.
