Yevpatorija

Since the end of the VI century B.C. on a place of modern Yevpatoriya there was a Greek settlement under the name of Kerkintida. In the XVII - XVIII centuries it was one of the biggest towns in the Crimean khanate. Since 1784 it has the name of Yevpatorija.

The emblem of the Russian period

 

 

The emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 17th of November 1844. A shield was per pale with vert and gules. In the right field there was an or ram's head to signify good conditions for breeding of grey sheep. On the left a sable dragon entwined round an argent staff and drinking from a sable cup - the symbol of Medicine - to signify Saksky mud. The effect of the mud - cure is undoubted.

B.Kene project

 

On the 15th of February 1868 B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town: in an or field is a sable pale accompanied two sable mutton heads with gules eyes and tongues. In the canton there was an emblem of Tavrijs'ka province. The shield is crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements and was put on two or anchors connected by the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.

The modern emblem

 

 

On the 30 of May 1997 town council session has confirmed a modern emblem. A shield per pale with vert and gules. In the right field there is an or ram's head. In the left a sable dragon entwined round an argent staff and drinking from a sable cup.

The gonfalon

 

 

On the 30 of May 1997 the session of the town council approved the gonfalon: a rectangular canvas with a ratio of the sides 1:1, in the yellow field is city emblem. In top and bottom the gonfalon has a green and red edging with width of 1/6 of width of the gonfalon.
