Kilija

The first written documents refer to the XIV century. Since 1353 the town was part of Hungary, since 1359 - of Moldavian principality, since 1484 - of Turkey, 1878 - of Russia. In 1918 - 1940 it was under the Romanian jurisdiction. Since 1940 the town became part of Ukraine.

The emblem of the Romanian period

The emblem of the Romanian period was confirmed in 1932. In an azure field there was an argent fortress on a vert island to the dexter side of which there was an or key. On the sinister side an or cross over the argent crescent. In gules chief there was a sable bull's head. The shield was crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements.
