Balta

The town is situated on the banks of the river Kodyma. Since the XVI century a settlement Balta in the dexter side bank was a customs point on a territory captured by a sultan. In the XVII century on the sinister side bank there appeared a Polish town known under the name Yuzephgrud.

In 1746 it was given the Magdeburg Right.

Since 1791 Balta had been under the jurisdiction of Russia, in 1793 Yuzephgrud became Russian.

Since 1776 the initials of Alexander Liubomyrs'kyi were used as an emblem - "A.L."

The emblem of the Russian period (project)

The proect of emblem of the Russian period was developed at 1837. In the upper part of a per fess shield there was Podil's'ka emblem. In the lower part in an vert field is an argent staff and two or crossed rye sheafs. It was not confirmed.

The emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 20th of July 1852. In the upper part of a per fess shield there was Podil's'ka emblem. In the lower part in an azure field an or rye sheaf with an or staff. The emblem was crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three embattlements.

B.Kene project

On the 17th of March B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. A shield lozengy per pale counterchanged with spikes in every part. In the canton there was an emblem of Podolski province. The shield is crowned with an argent mauerkrone with three smallembattlements and within two or spikes entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. The emblem was not approved.
