The emblem of the Russian period

The emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 4th of June 1782. In a gules field there was a sable anchor and three argent stars with eight rays each. One star was above and the two other on the sides. The picture of an anchor was on a seal of a former chancellery still before renaming of a settlement into a town. The origin of it is not explained. There is a supposition that the anchor has come from a family emblem of one of the owners of the town. That man took part in one of the naval engagements.

B.Kene project

At 11.05.1865 B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. In an gules field the or anchour accompanied the three argent stars wit eights rays each. In the canton there was an emblem of Chernihivs'ka province. The shield is crown with an argent mauerkrone with three towers and frame with two or ears, which are twine with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander.

It was confirmed at 1976. The chield per fess by azure and gules. In the shield are three or guns in pale accompanied on the right by the circular saw and hammer, at the left by the ear in pale. Above the ear is azure flower of flax. In the chief or cartouche is the sable city name in the Ukrainian language and a or star above it, in his base are sickle and hammer. These guns in 1709 have been presented to city by Peter I for active participation of city dwellers in Northern war. The author is M.Truhan.
