Novhorod-Sivers`kyi

The first mention refers to 1044. The origin of the name comes from a fortification Novyi Horodok which appeared on the place were tribes of Sivertsy lived.

Since 1098 it became the center of Siversky principality. Since 1619 it was under the power of Poland.

In 1620 it was given the Magdeburg Right.

Since 1644 Novhorod-Sivers'kyi became a town of Starodub regiment.

An emblem was granted in 1620 by king Sigizmund III. In a vert field there was a mural wall with a tower. On the sides there was an or spear and an or saber. The emblem symbolized a decisive repulse of the inhabitants of the town to the army of Lzhedmytri in autumn 1604.

The emblem of the Russian period

The emblem of the Russian period was confirmed on the 4th of June 1782 on the basis of the old emblem - in a vert field there was a fragment of a mural wall with a gate. Over the gate there was a tower with a star and an or saber and an or spear on the sides.

B.Kene project

At 20.04.1865 B.Kene worked out a project of a new emblem of the town. In an vert field the argent city wall with opened gate and tower with or ster with six rays above it. There are gules sword and spear in cross above gate. In the canton there was an emblem of Chernihivs'ka province. The shield is crown with an argent mauerkrone with three towers and frame with two or ears, which are twine with the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander.
